My Skincare Secrets + 6 Habits of Women With Great Skin

Today I’m giving you a peek inside my favorite skincare products. As I have gotten older, I have become a total skincare junkie. I have struggled with my skin over the years, having seen more dermatologists than I can count! However, it hasn't been until recently that I have found a skincare regimen that seems to work. In my search for the perfect product(s), I'll admit to having researched “skincare tips”, “at-home facials” and “how to get perfect skin”!

It is safe to say that I have learned a lot over the years and while my skin is not perfect, it has come a long way. If you are like me you probably know at least one woman with seemingly perfect skin. Every time you see her glowing face, you think, seriously, how does she do it? Here's the thing: Her secret is simple — she has flawless skin because she's nailed the best daily routine. That is the secret to healthy skin! Really.

I have combination skin (more dry than oily in the winter) and I have finally found a regimen that works well for me. Below I have included some of the products that I couldn't live without and I have also listed some of my habits that have helped improve my skin. 
 
Now let’s talk about some of these products and their benefits, shall we?

Ultra Facial Moisturizer SPF 30

This moisturizer has a unique formula that absorbs easily and helps protect skin from sun damage. It goes on smooth and it will soften and nurture your skin. It is also very reasonably priced at $31.

Midnight Recovery Concentrate- Night Care Facial Oil

This serum is formulated with ingredients like Lavender Essential Oil and Evening Primrose Oil to replenish skin by morning. It also improves firmness and elasticity for replenished, radiant skin.

Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solutions- Skin Tone Corrector

This is another serum that I use to brighten and clarify my skin for increased radiance. Over time, it does diminish the number and intensity of even deep-set dark spots and skin discolorations.

Tumeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Exfoliant Mask

This is one of my favorite products made by Kiehls. This facial mask instantly brightens dull, fatigued skin and restores skin’s healthy, rosy appearance over time.

Lifestyle Tips: 

(1) Drink the right liquids.

Though it's tempting to grab a coffee the minute you wake up, choosing the right beverages can be a game changer. I read recently that drinking chlorophyll or chlorophyll supplements can help drain puffiness by stimulating the lymphatic system, so it's also good for cellulite. I tend to gravitate toward green juices with lots of veggies in them which helps oxygenate your skin and gets rid of puffiness too!

(2) Maintain a healthy diet.

Flax seeds on your salad or even walnuts will be an instant boost to your omega-3 which will  increase your skin's ability to hold onto moisture. And be sure to eat a diet low in foods with a high glycemic index (simple and complex carbohydrates).

(3) Moisturize day and night. 

The best time to moisturize your skin is right after you get out of the shower and right before you head to bed. I try to avoid lotions that are heavily fragrant and I use a moisturizer gentle enough for every day use with zero irritation.

(4) Do not touch your face. 

We are all GUILTY of this. However, I have made a consorted effort not to do it. Touching your fact not only spreads bacteria and causes breakouts — it can lead to scarring, an increase in wrinkles and even the flu!

(5) Hydration is everything. 

Every skin expert I have spoken to has emphasized the importance of hydration. I have learned that choosing products (cleansing, moisturizing, and anti-aging) that have hydrating formulas is not only smart but very beneficial to your overall health. And, of course, drink around eight glasses of water a day!

(6) Goodnight, sleep tight. 

It's not just about getting eight hours a night. Skin will also benefit from regular use of clean silk pillowcases. I know this is a bit of an expense, but I advise, buy a set, you won't be disappointed! The material glides easily and prevents creasing and wrinkles. And if that isn't enough, silk is also easier on hair — it helps avoid tangles and breakage. Better hair and skin while you sleep? Yes, please.
